Young People Should Learn to Play Tennis Because
- Tennis is a lifetime sport
- Learning tennis early in life is not only fun but can be a vehicle for college and scholarship.
- A child's size is not a factor in tennis and chances of serious injury are marginal since tennis
is a non-contact sport. Therefore, tennis players can feel confident that they can reap the
just rewards for their years of serious training and hard work.
- Tennis is a fun social event.
- Tennis is a social equalizer; people of all social and economic classes, ages, races,
and occupations play tennis together.
Why The BCTA's Tennis Program is First-Rate?
- The program Director and Head Coach, Beverly Coleman, is a USPTA
certified professional and USTA certified coach, and has been teaching and coaching youth
athletics and tennis for over 40 years. She is also a health professional (acupuncturist, herbalist,
nutritionist), a credentialed (K-12) school teacher and college instructor (nutrition, health sciences).
She brings all these advantages to the BCTA program.
- The BCTA programs nurture the development of the whole person physically, mentally, emotionally and socially
- The BCTA emphasizes fun, sportsmanship getting along with others and a team approach to learning tennis. Participants
learn to cooperate and work for the good of their whole team
- Comprehensive and up to date training techniques and equipment are used to help participants develop a sound tennis
skills foundation
- Age appropriate teaching aids, games and strategies including the use of videos are utilized
- Our teams practice and travel together. They strive to win their matches both for themselves and their team
- We enlist the assistance of the adult tennis playing community to support BCTA players and programs. Adults contribute
oncourt time and experience. They form the volunteer support for our tournaments. They are members of our Board of
Directors and many contribute financially to our player development and scholarship fund.
- The BCTA also offers our participants a physical fitness program
and a family sports nutrition program.
- The BCTA offers recreational tennis for beginner
players, The Farm for players who are committed to progressing to The Team,
and THE ELITE TEAM. Click links above to get details of each.
- As part of their overall training, advanced TEAM players assist with the instruction of new students
(peer teaching).
- The BCTA is a membership academy.
