The Great Wall of China
An IMAX Film
THE FILM
Along with the original musical score and magnificent technical pictures, segments of history with narration would be
included visually with state-of-the-art computer animation. A re-occurring vehicle, such as a mystic Chinese bird
(computer animated) could serve as the motivator for transitions from picture to history animation back to picture
(bird’s eye view – aerial and static).
The Great Wall of China IMAX film will be a documentary telling one of the greatest cultural stories of world civilization,
with seamless continuity.
IMPLEMENTATION
Production
We anticipate working with the following core group on the production:
Ron Fricke (to include camera package). Ron is recognized for his skill in the "Non-Verbal Narrative" film genre,
and his IMAX film "Chronos" was considered groundbreaking when produced in the 1980’s. Chronos was shot in half a dozen
foreign countries and features advanced time-lapse motion control cinematography. In addition to his own work, Ron has
been a cinematographer for hire on numerous IMAX films for several producers. The film "BARAKA," which he directed and
filmed (5 perf 65mm wide screen), was recognized for its exposure quality and sense of composition. This production was
filmed in 23 countries, including China, over a period of 13 months, and was a year in planning. Most recently Ron has been
working as a specialist cameraman for Francis Ford Coppola, shooting specialty work for both feature films and other
projects. Ron's large format camera is a custom designed programmable single frame 65mm three axis motion control (dolly,
tilt, and pan.) that is an improved version of the system used for the making of Baraka.
